Larned High School is an accredited high school in central Kansas and consists of grades 9 thru 12 with an enrollment of approximately 282 students. Academic course offerings are diverse with opportunities for students to gain college credit. The staff consists of 30 full and shared instructors, principal, assistant principal and numerous support personnel.
The curriculum at Larned High School has been developed to meet the needs of all students. It includes a strong college prep strand, fine arts,and state approved vocational programs in Business Technology, Family and Consumer Science, Auto Technology and Welding Technology. Larned High School students traditionally score above the national and state average on the ACT exam. During the past nine years,six students have received recognition through the National Merit Awards program. During the past three years, close to one hundred students have been published in the High School Writer and A Celebration of Young Poets. Graduating seniors are eligible for over $250,000.00 in scholarships annually.
Community and business have worked together in many different ways with Larned High School. Some of the partnerships include; business application and business training opportunities, Pawnee County Partners for Youth, Senior/Senior Citizen Prom and the after prom party. High School students have volunteered for the Lions Club Food Drive, Red Cross Blood Drive, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and the Police Advisory Committee. In addition Larned High School students generate and maintain information about upcoming events on local cable channel 21 as a community resource.
Like all USD 495 schools, Larned High School is state and nationally accredited. As apart of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Larned High School utilizes highly qualified staff, who employ research-based strategies. Numerous opportunities for staff development are provided through on-line learning, workshops, state/national conferences, and memberships in educational learning centers.
